iPhone App Review: SlowShutter
Ever since I got the very first iPhone I have wanted an app that controls the shutter. Last year the app Camera+ had this feature but literally the day I found out Apple shut out the feature. This was because they were using the outside volume buttons to control shutter. Apple is VERY stringent about not letting any apps alter in any way the hardwired buttons.Last, week I was searching to see if any app has added the shutter control function and low and behold this one jumped out at me for obvious reasons, SlowShutter ($.99). I downloaded it and I have to say, it is the funnest photo app I have added in a long time and I download way too many photo apps so this is saying a lot.
The app has several options but my favorite is Light Trails. Allison and I experimented with light painting last night, we took turns writing our names with a red flashlight. I even made a quick attempt at a light ball but the battery died. I am going today to get some lights to experiment more. I know my DSLR can do this SO much better, but it's fun to push the little iPhone camera to new limits. So, don't compare it to the beautiful shots on that last post about the light ball documentary.
A couple very quick experimental shots:
Settings: Light Trail, 15sec shutter speed, 1/4 sensibility
