lbobi interview: Tamara Lackey and reDefine

reDefine with Tamara Lackey from Tamara Lackey on Vimeo.

My good friend Tamara Lackey has launched a new online interview show today called reDefine. I really like what Tamara is doing with this show and I wanted to spread the word for her. In that vein I asked Tamara a couple questions about her show and here are her answers.

Enjoy!

Bringer of joy,

Jeff

Jeff Rodgers: What is the concept of the show?

Tamara Lackey: We talk to people who do work they love.  I know from experience that it's not always easy/simple to follow your heart, but I also know that life is too short to not do so.  We talk to people from all walks of life, careers, mindsets and ask them about why they do what they do, what it takes, and how they make it fit in with the rest of "life" - relationships, time for self, family, etc.

We also are adding a new segment in Episode #2, "How Did I Not Know About This??", where we review cool stuff (products, apps, services, website, ideas, etc.) that make life easier.

Jeff: Do you have some names of upcoming guests?

Tamara:
Our first guest is ESPN Analyst and 12-year NBA player (first-round Knicks draft pick) Hubert Davis.
Our second guest is photographer, nomad and wall-faller, David duChemin.
Our next couple of guests will be high-profile folks that we're meeting up in the Hamptons this week.
After that, Scott Bourne - and a talk that shows a side of him that most don't see.
Then, Amanda Gorecki - she owns spas across the country, runs a cosmetics product line and has a brain surgeon husband and four kids. (How?)
Then Scott Johnson - the first person with cystic fribrosis to complete an Ironman competition, two years after he was nearly pronounced dead.

Many more lining up :)

Jeff: Where did the idea for the show come from?

Tamara: I thought of this show because I'm incredibly interested in the concept of how to fuse work, life, relationships and the need to just be alone.  Part of my interest is kinda self-focused - after getting incredibly oh-so overwhelmed myself, I started really exploring how I could do this better.  The more I started really becoming fascinated with new ideas, the more I wanted to share them.  Most people I know burn out on what they love because they can't figure out how to a) sustain their business b) not sacrifice too much to be able to achieve their dreams. c) truly feel fulfilled when they simply feel stretched

Jeff: What would you like to see reDefine grow into?

Tamara: I'm lucky enough to be working on the show with a great producer/director  Alisa Katz.  We are primarily focused right now on creating a great show and constantly improving it while also creating a distribution model that allows it to get better seen.  We'd love to better incorporate feedback, questions, ideas and requests for future guests - right now, though our reDefine Show facebook page but eventually through a stronger portral.  We're building out www.redefineshow.com right now, but it's being housed on our site in the meantime.  In addition, starting with episode 2, we're creating a 2nd version of the show exclusively for AdoramaTV, too.

We are currently planning to release a fully-produced episode every two weeks, but I'd love to get to the point where that can happen more frequently.

Jeff: What has been the most creative challenge of this whole project?

Tamara: 1. Finding a creative way to fund it and figuring out how to work with my fingers always crossed ;)
2. Creatively allocating time to do it and do it well (we are both working on different things - Alisa to help distribute Capturing Life Better; I am currently on deadline to finish my next book by Oct. 3rd and leaving for Australia for 2 months a couple weeks after that)
3. Coming up with questions that I think really provoke authentic discussion. I've been interviewed enough to know what it's like to be thrown a stale question - I want my guests to answer questions that would genuinely help our viewers.  I find that I'm thinking of great questions all the time :)

Thanks!
Tamara
