Big Possibilities with the Big Oven App
We've all been there before. You thought you had planned all the meals for the week, but somehow you forgot about that one night. You really don't want to go to the grocery store, and you know that there's got to be enough food around the house for you to make something.Usually this is when I resort to throwing together lots of random ingredients into a 13x9 pan and pretending I've just made a casserole of some kind. But no more. With the Big Oven app (which is for both iPhone and Android, and is FREE) you can always find something to make. And odds are, it will actually be good.
Free iPhone app: BigOven
All you have to do is tap Get Ideas > Get Ideas to Use Up Leftovers and you'll be able to enter ingredients that you have around the house. I used it last night and found a Taco Bake recipe just by typing in "Ground Beef" and "Taco". And it was awesome.
You can mark favorites, and save recipes for later. There's also a pretty sweet Random Recipe option, which is good for when you're walking around the grocery store and need an idea. I also like having the recipe on my phone when I'm cooking, which is much easier to access than a large cookbook.
There is a full website for Big Oven, and many more options for the power user. These are all available as part of a paid upgrade. For example, you can get the Big Oven app to make your grocery list. I won't be paying for it, but it must work well because the app is pretty high on the list of In-App Purchases in the App Store.
So give Big Oven a try this weekend, and post any awesome recipes that you find in the comments.
