The Sketchbook Project
I love doodling and sketching; unfortunately, I don't often set aside any time for myself to do it. I've often thought that it would be really awesome to doodle/sketch every day for an entire month, or 6 months, or even a year (once I got better at working it into my schedule).Even though we all hate deadlines, maybe they are good for something after all. They give you a set time to start, and a small space of time in which to finish what you started. So on that note, let me introduce the Sketchbook Project. In the words of the creators (Steven and Shane from Art House Co-op), "It's like a concert tour, but with sketchbooks."
The goal is to completely fill the provided sketchbook that they send to you after you sign up with doodles created on an open-ended theme that you can select. You have to sign up by October 31st and you send your sketchbook back to the Art House folks by January 31st.
Here's a short video that shows a few of last year's entries:
One of the coolest parts of the project is that your sketchbook will live on in a collection in Brooklyn. There are barcodes on each book, so if you ever venture up to NY to visit your book you can find it easily. Visitors to the Brooklyn Art Library can flip through all the books, and you'll even be notified if someone checks out your work! I think that's pretty sweet.

I have seen this the past few years, but have never signed up. Maybe next year! Would be neat to go see the books in person. :)
