3 business tips for building the right online presence.
Here are 3 simple tips to help you establish and maintain the right online presence for your small business. Remember, managing social media is ever evolving and will need constant course corrections. Try to learn from your missteps and just keep moving forward.1. Don't get complacent.
Social media is an ever evolving medium and you have to stay current with where your potential client and existing clients are. I am not saying jump on every new service that rolls along but be aware of what is currently popular and carefully weigh the pros and cons of adding your business presence there. The flip side is true as well. Just because you have spent a lot of time developing your myspace page doesn't mean you should continue investing in something no one will see.
2. Be unique.
Your businesses online personality is your BRAND. There is no one else on the planet like you so don't copy from someone else and expect that to work. People have a keen sense of when a business is being insincere. Be bold and original, people are bombarded daily with updates and messages and you have to stand out to be noticed.
3. Engage your audience.
Be prepared to praise, argue, refute (when necessary), update, announce and otherwise try your best to shape the conversations about your brand. You have to be constantly monitoring what is being said. When someone speaks well of you or your business jump in with a quick thanks. If you see two people having a online conversation about your business then jump right in and engage them.
The opposite is true as well. If there is someone voicing displeasure with your business then address it in a professional manner right there. I personally try to move the discussion to a private one though.
