We are inspired by hundreds of things daily. Sometimes we realize it, others may just be subconscious. If you're one of the thousands of photographers at Imaging USA this week, you should DEFINITELY see plenty of inspiration around you. The inspirations could be as obvious as a TV show or as subtle as the design of the floor tiles. The question is, how do we keep track of all these things in order to easily recall them later? Enter the camera phone. Of course the best photos would come from the iPhones, Blackberrys and other smart phones. But regardless of the quality, the vast majority of us have this very accessible tool for capturing these things that inspire us. Think of it as visual note-taking. Doing this will change the way you look at the places, people and objects around you. Keep your eyes peeled for that cool design on your fast food cup. That perfect color scheme. Or maybe you like shape of that tree...you hippie. Compile these daily photos and keep them on your computer. Below are some photos I've taken recently of interesting textures, shapes and design.

Nick

Hey, this is a great idea..............why didn't I think of that?? We all have phones so now we just have to remember that when our photographer's eye spots something cool, different or inspiring to snap it! Thanks, I'll be visiting this blog often!

I have caught myself doing documenting neat textures and scenes. Try even twisting your phone a little bit, creating some cool blur effect.

Well, this is my first ever blogpost to make in my life. I am the resident interior designer, not a computer guru! Hopefully with time I will get better.

As a designer I tend to look at all spaces as possible locations for placement of images, not just the obvious ones. The one thing that we see a lot, is people don't know where to place things and at what height. (pet peeve ~ things hung to high on the wall, unless you are a family of giants bring things down to eye level.) The other thing we hear a lot of is 'I have an open floor plan in my house and don't have any wall space.' While this is a trend in homes and can be somewhat of a challenge, all houses have walls. You might just have to get a little more creative in where you put things.  Below are some examples of places we have made suggestions that are not the typical but look fabulous!

This was a great place for these sweet girls images on the stairs that typically would have never been used for a grouping, but it made it fun. Don't forget to look for any electrical outlets and switches when deciding on placement.

IMG_8908-2JR.jpgI love this picture not only because it's our beautiful studio, but it is a eye catching place for the images placed above the large cased opening.

austinJR.jpgThis space above the kitchen pass thru is one of my favorites! The client loved the idea of having something interesting in the spot. Note the tone of the images really makes it a part of the room.

Some of the more obvious places are to anchor images with a nice piece of furniture or if their is a special niche somewhere with great lighting. Don't think about the way everything in the house is currently, and don't be afraid to MOVE things, you don't live in a museum it doesn't have to stay the same way forever.  We encourage people all the time to take things off their walls and move them around the house to see if you like it better somewhere else, and to group different things together.

This is a great example if a niche that was planned in a drawing and then we added images to this special place.
So all this to say, don't be afraid of your house, and don't be surprised if we suggest moving stuff around your house. One thing I like to do is take things down, play with arranging them on the floor to make it feel fresh. I always like to change things around to make room for something exciting and new and my house. Have fun and refresh your nest!

i just joined and missed the free sampler pack!!!! any chance you are extending the deadline (hint! hint!)?

(01.16.10 @ 09:02 AM)
PJ says:

Jeff just told me about the site Yesterday! I think that counts towards an extension :)

(01.19.10 @ 12:24 AM)
Nick says:

Hmm...I guess we can extend the deadline under one circumstance. You must make a blog post on Collaborate. This post has to be valuable to the community. It can be a question, something interesting you've found or just some knowledge you'd like to share with the masses.

PJ, you've already done this so you will receive an email with the download link. Anyone else who reads this has until the end of this week to make a VALUABLE post in collaborate and you will also receive an email.
